Commitments
TIME
The primary commitment required to participate in the Urban Monastery is time. As Willard pointed out, “you must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day.” The reality is often that our lives are busy and our priorities scattered. Participating in the Urban Monastery invites you to slow down and pay more careful attention to the spiritual life. This way of being cuts against the grain of western culture. It will not be easy.
OPENNES
Being part of the Urban Monastery is not simply doing everything the same way with a little more emphasis on prayer. This is an invitation to a new way of being. Removing clutter in our lives and learning to listen will be central. Being open to exploring new practices and learning new habits will be vital.
