Activities: University of Calgary (UofC).
1. Help student FOCUS Club executive with annual report and
other UofC requirements
2. UofC class – see under “Teaching”
Activities: Organizing
1. Attend monthly ISMC City Team meetings and often take minutes
2. Attend weekly staff prayer meeting
3. Prepare and hand out FOCUS monthly schedules
4. Daily answer FOCUS emails as needed
5. Help organize ISMC events and give rides when needed
6. Give referrals to students and Canadians when I have info
7. Sometimes man the ISMC display when needed
8. Volunteer with Cooperative ESL Ministries (CESLM) (help organize and
teach at city-wide conferences and training events).
Activities: Teaching
1. UofC ESL class/Bible Study (1 hour each, weekly on Friday
afternoons, average attendance about eight.
2. FOCUS discussion group (3 Friday evenings/mo. This year, my topic has
been “The Newspaper and the Bible” choosing a newspaper story and relating
what the Bible has to say about it..
3. Saturday evening ESL class/Bible study in UofC Family Housing
4. Brentview International Fellowship Bible Study (I’m one of several Bible
study leaders on Sunday mornings..
5. CESLM spring conference (every May, this year on ESL Bible studies.
6. CESLM 30-hour training (3 weekends in Sept/Oct. I usually teach about
teaching grammar.
Activities: Mentoring/giving advice
1. Max who works with me in my UofC class and at FOCUS
2. Brad (Int’l pastor at Brentview).
3. CESLM 30-hour training participants and others who want observe my
classes or want advice on ESL teaching or Bible studies
4. Passing on resources to other Canadians for reaching out to
internationals
Activities: Student Contact
1. Pick up students at the airport and meet students at Clubs Week when
schedule permits
2. Attend weekly FOCUS meetings and activities & get to know students there
3. Invite students to my home for special occasions, e.g. making Christmas
cookies, wathching a special video, etc.
4. Invite or accompany students to special activities
5. Help students as needed and as able, especially with editing or
translation
Besides the above ministry activities, I also teach three ESL
classes a week for Agape Language Center at
Beddington
Pentecostal Church as a part-time job and give rides to and from school
and activities for the children of the family I live with in exchange for
part of my rent.
Ministry:
1. We need more staff (most in Calgary, including me, are part time staff or
volunteers and there are many students we are unable to reach.)
2. We need more Canadian Friendship Partners to have personal contact with
students who have asked to be matched with a Canadian friend.
