help those in need. Please contact Alan McNaughton at alan@mcnaughton.org
for information.
Varsity
Gathering Places Committee once again thanks
Varsity Bible Church for their undying commitment to
serve. On June 27th, the youth worked hard to make
tiles for one panel of a 3 sided sculpture that will
be placed in the park adjacent to the church. After
church, the rest of the congregation joined in and
made tiles as well. An amazing 52 tiles from a
possible 70 were completed last week. The artist,
Tracy Franks, showed everyone how to trace and cut
the tile, how to add dimension and blend the clay.
Jillian then helped everyone glaze their tiles in
the specified color. Each tile will help make up a
larger panel depicting children eating ice cream and
HOTDOGS (A reminder to all of Mat’s Thursday Hot Dog
program.) Way to go Varsity!
This sculpture is part of a bigger project in
Varsity, where the Artists worked with the Varsity
Schools: Marion Carson, F. E. Osborne, St Vincent’s
and Varsity Acres to make the tiles for the other
sculptures.
Watch for these sculptures to sprout up in the
community shortly:
“Soccer” at Varsity Estates Road
“Winter/Tobogganing” in the gully on 53rd Street
“Walking/Dog-walking” in McLaren Village
“Cycling” at 53rd Street at 40th Avenue
“Community/People” adjacent to Varsity Bible Church
made in part by the VBC Family
5 years ago Varsity Bible Church donated proceeds
from their garage sale. Those funds helped increase
the amount matched by a government grant that made
this project possible. That one kind gesture made it
possible for so many people to take part in a
beautification project for all to enjoy for many
years to come. The Varsity “Gathering Places”
committee thanks you!
VARSITY
BIBLE CHURCH EMPLOYMENT DIRECTORY—Anyone wanting
to put their names on a Varsity Bible Church list
for church members to call for services (Plumbing,
Electrical, Landscaping, Mechanical, Flooring, Tile,
Painting, Roofing, Accounting, Financial Planning,
Computer help, etc), please contact Lynn in the
church office with your information. This list would
be given out to those in the church (eg. Seniors)
who request it who would prefer to hire someone
within the church instead of an unknown person.
