Varsity
Bible Church Doctrinal Statement:
We
believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be
the inspired Word of God, without error in the original
writings, the complete revelation of His will for the
salvation of men, and the Divine and final authority for all
Christian faith and life. 2 Tim. 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:21; Acts
1:16-24; Mark 12:24-36.
We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely
perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son
and Holy Spirit. Gen. 1; 3:22; 11:6-8; John 1: 1-4; Acts
5:3,4; Matt. 28:19,20.
We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man,
having been conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the
Virgin Mary. He died on the Cross, as a sacrifice for the
sins of all mankind, according to the Scriptures. Further,
He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where
He is at the right hand of the Majesty on High. He is now
our High Priest and advocate. Matt. 1:18-23; Luke 1:35; John
5:39; Acts 17:2,3; 18:28.
We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to
glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to
convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell,
guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living
and service. John 7:38,39; 14:16,17; 15:26; 16:13-15; Acts
1:8; 2:1-4.
We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell
into sin and is therefore lost, and only through
regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual
life be obtained. Gen. 1:26,27; John 5:40; 6:53; Eph. 2:1-3;
1 Tim. 5:6.
We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His
resurrection provide the only ground for justification and
salvation for all who believe and only such as receive Jesus
Christ are born of the Holy Spirit, and thus become children
of God.
Further, we believe in the keeping power of God for
all those who trust Christ as their personal Savior, and the
Spirit of God who seals and witnesses to their eternal
salvation. It is the privilege of every child of God to
rejoice in the assurance of his salvation through the
testimony of God's Word, which however, clearly forbids the
use of Christian liberty as an occasion to indulge in the
flesh. Matt. 26:28; John 1:12; Rom. 5:6-9; Gal. 3:13; Eph.
1:7.
We believe that believer's baptism and the Lord's supper
are ordinances to be observed by the church during the
present age. They are, however, not regarded as means of
salvation. Matt. 28:19,20; Acts 2:38; 8:12; Luke 22:19,20; 1
Cor. 1:23-27.
We believe that the true Church is composed of all such
persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been
regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in
the body of Christ of which He is the head. John 3:5-8; Gal.
6:1-5; Eph. 1:13; Tit. 3:5; 1 Pet. 1:23.
We believe that only those who are members of this true
Church shall be eligible for membership in the local
church.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the
Church, and that every church has the right under Christ to
decide and govern its own affairs. Col. 1:18,19.
We believe in the personal and premillenial and imminent
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this Blessed Hope
has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the
believer. John 14:1-3; Acts 1:10,11; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; Titus
2:13; Heb. 9:28; 1 John 3:1-3.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the
believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord,
of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious
punishment. Rev. 20:5,6; John 5:28,29; 1 Cor. 15; Rom. 1:4;
8:23.

Community Groups:
At Varsity Bible Church,
we are beginning to see that the ancient and biblical practice
of hospitality is at the very centre of our service to the
world. The Small Home Groups within VBC are essentially
"little churches". These small groups of people carry on
much of the important work God has called us to do, loving God
and neighbour. As the church community grows in size, the
'small church' feeling of community and caring is nurtured.
